This is a design for a cover to a comic I'd one day hope to get published. It's based loosely on the mythological character Proteus, a shape-shifting prophet, and details his life in the modern world.

In my storyline, he's living in New York (It seems every comic book hero lives in New York) and living his life, hiding his true powers behind the latest identity he's created for himself-- That of a seventeen-year old highschool girl named Amanda Reilly.

In my way of thinking, he's a shapeshifter and as such his personality and sense of self are a matter of whim. He's got no real gender identity beyond whatever he decides to have and is only referred to as a "he" because he was male when the myths were written. And to his logic, what better place to hide a shape-shifting, future-seeing, former king of Egypt (he was, look it up) than in the body of a highschool mall rat?

For the record, I love criticism, but anyone out there freaked out by people changing genders or that kind of thing, please don't comment. This is fiction, it's not on the stands, and you're internet browser has a back button, so whatever exposure you have to it is entirely up to you. Remember, Proteus isn't human, he just plays one on TV.

I totally would love to see the story for this... or more art. The story more though, in my opinion. I would love to read about this Proteus and his/her new adventures in NYC.

What would a shape-shifting prophet from Eygption times, currently masquerading as a teenage girl do?

Personally, I see way to many possibilities here, and I like them.

I actually started writing outlines and scripts for this comic idea. I had about seven plot ideas and a story done before the drive I had them on crashed. I'm still in the process of rewriting them. I'll make sure and post the stories when I get them finished.

You take your time and do the job till you are satisfied with how it flows. Don't let others press you to speed up. I hate deadlines in that respect. They determine an "acceptable" quality of work with it really not that acceptable at all.

Problem with my writing is ideas come on bottle rockets of inspiration. I'll have an idea, and it'll be good, and I'll run with it. The flow will be nice, and I'm in the zone for an hour or three, then POP! It's gone. When that happens, the only way to get it back is to start rewriting the whole thing over again. Set off another bottle rocket and see how far I can get on it.

I used to have that very problem, solved it by depriving myself from sleep and drinking caffeine beverages till I hit the "Zone" then write until I can think clearly anymore and usually go for outlines of first then flesh into it with whatever time left.

It's not for everyone. I usually made it to bed by eight am the next morning.

See that's my standard way of writing. I got through High School and College writing papers less than 12 hours before they became due. It's the only time I can be even slightly productive, since during "Normal" hours I always end up wandering randomly through Wikipedia.
